Marlise Newman Statement

“If you hear a voice within you saying, ‘You are not a painter’, then by all means paint…and that voice will be silenced”. – Vincent Van Gogh

Painting from instinctive feeling rather than conscious reasoning is the way I do it. I want to draw the observer through atmosphere and a little mystery. You’ll see curious mark making and surprise use of color along with the merging of classical landscape themes in a contemporary manner. My hopeful intention is for you to dive in and want to stay…to perhaps let the work awaken something.

A North Carolina native, Marlise obtained a degree in Advertising Art and Design and worked for years as a graphic designer. Creative expression has been a mark on her lifetime journey. Her fine art pursuits through the years have led her to study with accomplished artists such as Kathleen Elsey, noted Fauvist painter; Steven Aimone; internationally-known and acclaimed Maggie Siner and presently with internationally-acclaimed Andrew Braitman. Marlise is an award-winning artist and has placed in many juried shows. Her work is found in private and corporate collections across the states.
